Meet Mr Mittens, A Cute Friend

Meet Mr. Mittens, an ornery stinker that loves to play fetch, get belly rubs, show off his jumping skills and run this Momma over at 3 am while playing with his brother, Gus.

While I was penning Shattered Intuition, my thoughts were on a loyal cat that blessed me with his presence for 17 years, Fatzo.  He was chonky and very loving.  He had a cool independent cat personality and I envisioned the character Mr. Mittens as having that same attitude.  It was fun thinking about how Fatzo would have handled every-day situations if he could have “spoken” to me.  He’s been sorely missed.

As it turned out with several things that happen within the book, Mr. Mittens came true as well.  Last September, I was standing next to an open window at home and heard a kitten crying; quite loudly.  I rushed outside to find this tiny fur ball alone in the garden, screaming his fool head off.  He weighed less than a pound!  I scooped him up and hauled him inside.  He curled up in the crook of my arm and went to sleep within minutes.  We’ve been inseparable ever since.

Mr. Mittens has gotten very attached to his brother Gus and his human mom.  It’s been fascinating watching him grow, choose his favorite toys, hone his fetching skills and get used to riding in the car.  The vet says he’s going to be very sizable, he’s already 11 pounds!  He’s recently started laying down in the crook of my arm again; usually when it’s time to get up in the morning.  He’s truly a Heaven-sent blessing.

See below for a few of his baby pix:
